Assignment 1

Poster Campaign for MTV - Youth Marketing Forum

I chose a promotional poster created Avinash Jai Signh in 2014. It was commissioned By MTV for their Youth Marketing Forum, an event in which they “invite some of the best known marketers, trend hunters and thought leaders from across the globe to come together and dissect the bold and ever-changing world of the youth.”(1) It is part of a 5-piece series meant to entice the audience to look more into the studies conducted by the forum.

Because the target audience is teens and young adults, the florescent blue and soft yellows are used to catch their attention. The layout is chaotic and experimental but contained within a mostly symmetrical rectangle. In the forefront is a statement and and question that are large on the page. The contradicting thoughts are paired with contradicting typefaces. Behind the words are an image of  hands proposing. This image catches your interest and when it's paired with what the type is saying, creates curiosity in the viewer.

I think this is a strong design piece because its boldness immediately pulls in the viewer’s attention. The experimental nature of the type and image editing makes the piece seem current and like it would be interesting to the layman. All of the information is easily found and understood. The message of the poster gives just enough information to make the audience curious.
